Twenty-one-year-old Bulou Buteiove celebrated a significant milestone when she was crowned Miss Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival 2024 last Saturday in Sigatoka Town. During her acceptance speech, she expressed deep gratitude to God and dedicated her victory to her mother and her family from the vanua o Nasama in Nadroga.
“I dedicate this crown to my mother, who is my pillar of strength, and to my family,” Buteiove said. She emphasized the importance of love and generosity, highlighting the influence of her mother, whom she considers her rock. A former student of Adi Cakobau School, Buteiove is currently a second-year student at the National University of Fiji, where she is pursuing a degree in primary education with aspirations to become a teacher.
The event also featured Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, who served as the chief guest. He spoke on the carnival’s theme, “Breaking the Waves of Addiction,” noting its relevance and impact on the community. Gavoka metaphorically likened addiction to relentless ocean waves that can damage individuals and families but emphasized the importance of unity and resilience in overcoming this challenge.
“Breaking the waves of addiction requires a collective response; a community anchored in resilience and driven by compassion,” Gavoka stated. He also highlighted the Coral Coast’s significance to Fiji’s tourism industry, portraying it as a beautiful destination that captivates visitors with its hospitality and cultural richness.
This inspiring event not only celebrated Buteiove’s crowning but also drew attention to pressing social issues while reinforcing the strength of community and personal connections. The focus on resilience and hope sends a positive message, encouraging both individual and collective efforts to confront challenges like addiction.
Overall, the event stands as a reminder that through love, support, and community engagement, positive change is not just possible but achievable.
