Crowning Glory: A Young Queen’s Tribute to Her Mother and Community

Twenty-one-year-old Bulou Buteiove celebrated a significant milestone in her life when she was crowned Miss Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival 2024 last Saturday in Sigatoka Town. During the event, she expressed deep gratitude towards her mother, whom she regards as her greatest inspiration and support.

Reflecting on her journey, Ms. Buteiove acknowledged that her achievements are a testament to her faith and the unwavering support of her family and community from Nasama, Nadroga. “I dedicate this crown to my mother, who is my pillar of strength, as well as to my family and community,” she stated. Her appreciation for her mother highlighted the importance of love and generosity, values she aims to share through her platform.

A dedicated student, Ms. Buteiove is currently in her second year of pursuing a primary education degree at the National University of Fiji, with aspirations of becoming a teacher in the future.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, attended the carnival as the chief guest and emphasized this year’s theme, “Breaking the Waves of Addiction.” He acknowledged the challenges that addiction poses to individuals and communities, likening it to the relentless ocean waves that can erode foundations. Mr. Gavoka urged for a united community effort to combat addiction, reinforcing that through resilience and shared compassion, healing and renewal are achievable.

He also hailed Sigatoka’s Coral Coast as a vital part of Fiji’s tourism industry, describing it as a precious destination that attracts visitors to marvel at the nation’s natural beauty and hospitality. Mr. Gavoka’s remarks serve as a reminder that the strength of community and collaboration can mitigate challenges, fostering hope for a brighter future.
