Jiya Jaanvi Prasad, a 20-year-old contestant sponsored by Rainbow Cool Tech, is dedicated to raising awareness and providing compassion to combat drug addiction. Participating in the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka, she is one of seven contestants taking a united stand against this pressing issue.

“At the Coral Coast Carnival, we unite to fight drug addiction,” Ms. Prasad expressed. She emphasized the importance of hope, recovery, and support while acknowledging that this is her first time participating in a pageant.

“By raising awareness and offering compassion, we can help break the chains of addiction and create a brighter, healthier future for all. Together, we are stronger in this fight,” she added.

Jiya credits her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, who both work in the tourism sector, for their ongoing support. Originally from Maro, Nadroga, she attended Tuva Primary School and Nadroga Arya College. Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, with aspirations to become a lawyer.

The carnival, which has continued for four years, will culminate in a crowning ceremony this Saturday, as shared by committee secretary Ramesh Naidu.

This initiative highlights the empowering role of youth in addressing societal challenges and showcases the importance of community support in tackling addiction. Jiya’s participation not only raises awareness but also inspires hope for positive change among her peers and the community at large.
