Crown Controversy: The Battle for Miss Universe Fiji 2024

Manshika Prasad, recently crowned Miss Universe Fiji 2024, faced a tumultuous few days following her victory due to confusion and controversy surrounding her title. Just two days after her crowning at a lavish private event, allegations emerged involving vote rigging, sexual assault, and potential financial misconduct.

Despite the public scrutiny, Ms. Prasad maintained a composed demeanor while enduring a lengthy media attack from a rival contestant. As the reigning queen grappled with the heavy burden of these accusations, social media buzzed with speculation and concern over her silence.

At just 23 years old, Ms. Prasad opted not to engage in a public spat on social media. The situation escalated as her rival competitor made serious allegations, some of which hinted at racial undertones. However, clarity was restored when Ms. Prasad addressed the confusion surrounding her representation at the upcoming Miss Universe International pageant.

In a recent Instagram post, she excitedly shared her preparations for the event in Mexico, stating, “Counting down days until I’m in Mexico for the 73rd Miss Universe,” alongside a glamorous photo of herself in a sleeveless white gown adorned with her crown and sash. She confirmed, “I am going officially as stated by Miss Universe Organisation,” reassuring her supporters with her intent to represent Fiji.

This situation unfolded amidst claims made by rival contestant Nadine Roberts, who sought to challenge Ms. Prasad’s title. Roberts, who has familial ties in Fiji, has faced scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest regarding the pageant’s organization. Despite attempts to reach her for comment, there have been no responses.

Currently in Australia preparing for the international pageant, Ms. Prasad is an advocate for women’s rights and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
