Two individuals are in critical condition at Labasa Hospital following a serious vehicle accident that occurred on the Sekawa Stretch in Savusavu on Thursday night. According to Police spokesperson Sergeant Warne Bautolu, the accident took place around 8 PM when a 30-year-old farmer lost control of his vehicle and collided with a parked truck. The driver and a 23-year-old female passenger suffered significant injuries and are currently receiving urgent medical care in the hospital.
This incident marks the third reported vehicle accident in the Northern Division within the last two weeks, underscoring ongoing issues related to road safety in the area. In a similar vein, a recent series of accidents in the Western Division resulted in fatalities, with police emphasizing the need for vigilant driving to prevent further tragedies. The authorities have been actively investigating these incidents to promote safer driving behaviors among the community.
While the circumstances surrounding these accidents are concerning, there is hope that increased awareness of road safety initiatives may lead to a decline in such incidents. Previous reports indicated a decrease in the overall road death toll, demonstrating potential progress in road safety measures. Community efforts focused on education and awareness around responsible driving could help mitigate risks on the roads, encouraging safer travel for all residents.
