Cricket Fiji is set to unveil a series of exciting initiatives this year aimed at enhancing the development of cricket throughout the nation. In a recent interview, Sitiveni Rokoro, the chief executive of Cricket Fiji, announced the inaugural National under-19 girls’ tournament, which will take place this year. This tournament will showcase the winners from zonal competitions held in Suva, Nadi, and several maritime schools, marking a significant step in promoting women’s cricket in Fiji.

Rokoro mentioned that for the first time, they are looking forward to bringing together these winners for a robust competition. Alongside this, the Super 4 women’s tournament will also be hosted, providing a vital opportunity for elite female cricketers from Suva and Nadi to display their skills. This tournament will double as a selection mechanism for Fiji’s national team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier scheduled for September.

Additionally, Cricket Fiji is keen on expanding participation by incorporating two new districts, Lautoka and Navua, into the U14 boys’ and girls’ district cricket competition. Notably, this year will also see U14 boys competing in hardball cricket for the first time, representing a thrilling development for emerging players.

On the organizational front, Cricket Fiji is undertaking a comprehensive internal review to improve operational efficiency and accountability. Furthermore, the Cricket for Good, Fiji program, which is funded by the Australian government’s Team Up initiative and focuses on using cricket as a vehicle to impart life skills and inspire positive changes, will continue through 2026. This initiative is particularly aimed at empowering youth and women while promoting social inclusion across the islands.

These developments reflect Cricket Fiji’s commitment to fostering cricketing talent at all levels while encouraging social progress within the community, ensuring that the sport grows stronger in the region.

This year holds promising opportunities for cricket enthusiasts in Fiji, with new platforms and competitions paving the way for a brighter future in the sport. As the cricketing landscape expands with these initiatives, it fosters hope and enthusiasm for the next generation of players.
