Cricket Fiji is set to launch several exciting initiatives this year aimed at expanding and enhancing the sport across the nation. In a recent interview, Chief Executive Sitiveni Rokoro announced that Fiji will host its inaugural National Under-19 Girls’ Tournament, which will feature winners from regional competitions in Suva, Nadi, and select maritime schools. This marks a significant step in promoting women’s cricket in Fiji.

Additionally, the Super 4 Women’s Tournament is on the agenda, offering a stage for top female players from Suva and Nadi to demonstrate their talents. This tournament will also serve as a selection round for Fiji’s national team, preparing for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier scheduled for September.

In a bid to enhance cricket’s reach, Cricket Fiji will integrate two new districts, Lautoka and Navua, into the U14 boys’ and girls’ district cricket competition. Notably, U14 boys will experience hardball cricket for the first time, an exciting development expected to enhance the skills and competitiveness of younger players.

Internally, Cricket Fiji is undergoing an organizational review aimed at improving efficiency and accountability within the organization.

The “Cricket for Good, Fiji” program will continue until 2026, supported by the Australian government’s Team Up initiative. This program emphasizes using cricket as a vehicle for teaching life skills and instigating positive change, focusing on empowering youth and women while promoting social inclusion throughout Fiji.

These initiatives reflect Cricket Fiji’s commitment to cultivating talent, fostering inclusivity, and elevating the game of cricket across all ages and genders in the country, promising a brighter future for the sport.

In summary, Cricket Fiji is actively taking steps to grow the game, empower participants, and create positive change through sport, which bodes well for the future of cricket in Fiji.
