Cricket Fiji has partnered with Sanjiv Dubey, an experienced high-performance coach from Australia, to conduct a training camp for the national Under-19 team. This initiative is part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifiers, scheduled to be held in Japan this April.

The training camp began on January 8 at Albert Park in Suva and is set to last until January 25. Dubey, who is in his third year with Cricket Fiji, will focus on improving the players’ core skills through comprehensive training sessions, supported by local coaches. He emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to player development, stating, “We need to invest time and effort into our development if we want to advance beyond just participating in tournaments.”

In a positive and inclusive move, the training camp also welcomes female players from the 2024/25 Women’s T20 League, promoting diversity within the sport. Dubey expressed admiration for the young players’ eagerness to learn and their good character, describing the experience as enriching. He is optimistic about the gradual skill development process, aiming for the players to showcase professionalism in international competitions.

This training initiative not only prepares the Under-19 team for immediate challenges but also seeks to elevate Cricket Fiji’s profile in the international cricket arena. By nurturing young talent and fostering an environment of inclusivity and support, Cricket Fiji is paving the way for a brighter future for cricket in the region. The commitment to developing young cricketers indicates promising prospects for the sport in Fiji, setting the stage for success in international competitions.
