Cricket Fiji has engaged Australian high-performance coach Sanjiv Dubey to lead a training camp for the national Under-19 team, gearing up for the East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifiers to be held in Japan this April. The camp started on January 8 at Albert Park in Suva and will run until January 25.

Dubey, who is in his third year working with Cricket Fiji, aims to enhance the players’ core skills through comprehensive training sessions that include support from local coaches. In a recent interview, he emphasized that improving the game requires a holistic approach, which is essential not only for individual player development but also for elevating Cricket Fiji’s profile in international cricket.

Highlighting the importance of thorough preparation, Dubey stated, “We need to invest time and effort into our development if we want to advance beyond just participating in tournaments.” He expressed optimism about the training program, noting the character and eagerness to learn demonstrated by the young athletes.

Also noteworthy is the camp’s inclusivity; it is open to female players currently competing in the 2024/25 Women’s T20 League, underscoring Cricket Fiji’s commitment to diversity within the sport.

Dubey’s focus on developing professionalism among players is evident as he strives to have them play at an international standard. “It’s a slow and long process, but if we follow it diligently, we can achieve our goals,” he stated, signaling a dedication to nurturing talent that bodes well for the future of cricket in Fiji.

Overall, this initiative not only prepares the Under-19 team for upcoming competitions but fosters a supportive environment for young cricketers, laying a foundation for a promising future in the sport. Cricket Fiji’s commitment to skill development and inclusivity reflects a hopeful vision of elevating the country’s presence in the international cricket arena.
