Cricket Fiji has enlisted Sanjiv Dubey, a high-performance coach from Australia, to conduct a short-term training camp for the national Under-19 team. This initiative is aimed at preparing the team for the upcoming East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifiers scheduled in Japan for April.

Dubey emphasizes that the training will focus on enhancing skills and is being supported by local coaches. In an interview with SUNsports, he highlighted the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to improve not only the players’ abilities but also Cricket Fiji’s standing in international cricket. “We need to invest time and effort into our development if we want to advance beyond just participating in tournaments,” he stated.

This marks Dubey’s third year collaborating with Cricket Fiji, and he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the young athletes, noting their good character and eagerness to learn. The training camp commenced at Albert Park in Suva and will run until January 25. “The key focus is to develop their core skills through a gradual process, eventually enabling them to perform like professionals on the international stage,” Dubey explained.

In a positive move, the training camp is also open to female players participating in the 2024/25 Women’s T20 League competition, promoting inclusivity within the sport.

Overall, this initiative signals a commitment to nurturing young talent within Fiji and striving for excellence in cricket, which may lead to promising prospects for the future of the sport in the region.
