Cricket Fiji has brought in Australian high-performance coach Sanjiv Dubey to lead a short-term training camp for the national Under-19 team in preparation for the upcoming East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifiers set to take place in Japan this April. This training camp began on January 8 at Albert Park in Suva and is scheduled to conclude on January 25, 2025.

Dubey, who has been collaborating with Cricket Fiji for three years, underscored the importance of a holistic approach to player development. He expressed that enhancing the players’ core skills is vital for their growth and ultimately for elevating Cricket Fiji’s profile in international cricket. In a conversation with SUNsports, he stressed the commitment to extensive groundwork necessary for success, stating, “We need to invest time and effort into our development if we want to advance beyond just participating in tournaments.”

The training sessions will not only aim to refine the skills of the Under-19 players but also foster inclusivity by welcoming interested female players currently competing in the 2024/25 Women’s T20 League competition. This move illustrates Cricket Fiji’s dedication to promoting diversity within the sport.
