Cricket Fiji has appointed Sanjiv Dubey, a high-performance coach from Australia, to supervise a training camp for the national Under-19 team as they gear up for the East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifiers in Japan this April. The camp, which commenced on January 8, 2025, at Albert Park in Suva, is set to conclude on January 25.
In his third year with Cricket Fiji, Dubey emphasized the training’s holistic approach, which aims to develop the players’ core skills with the support of local coaches. His focus is not only on immediate tournament preparation but also on improving the overall profile of Cricket Fiji on the international cricket stage. “We need to invest time and effort into our development if we want to advance beyond just participating in tournaments,” Dubey stated in an interview with SUNsports.
Dubey expressed admiration for the character and enthusiasm of the youth players, noting that their eagerness to learn creates an enriching environment for training. “The energy and learning are at the highest level when one works with good, humble, and simple people,” he shared.
Notably, the training camp is also inclusive of female players currently participating in the 2024/25 Women’s T20 League competition, highlighting Cricket Fiji’s commitment to diversity and opportunity within the sport.
This initiative stands as a significant stride toward nurturing cricket talent in Fiji, fostering an environment that encourages skill enhancement and inclusivity. With Dubey’s expert guidance, the national Under-19 team has the potential to not only improve their performance in the upcoming qualifiers but also contribute to a brighter future for cricket in the region. By focusing on comprehensive skill development, Cricket Fiji is laying the groundwork for aspiring cricketers to shine on international platforms.
