Cricket as a Lifeline: Battling Illicit Drugs Through Sport

Cricket is being promoted as a constructive way for young people to spend their time, steering them away from the temptation of illegal drug use. This message was emphasized by Meli Saubulinayau, the chairman of Cricket Fiji, during the opening day of the Fiji Secondary Schools under-19 cricket tournament at Albert Park.

Saubulinayau urged young athletes to prioritize their participation in cricket over other distractions, noting that this tournament provides a valuable opportunity for players to focus on the game.

Cricket Fiji is actively working to raise awareness about the sport and improve skills across various regions. Their initiatives not only aim to nurture talent and grow interest in cricket but also to utilize the sport as a means of preventing drug abuse within communities.

He further encouraged participants to stay focused and not to be swayed by other activities occurring in Suva this weekend. The cricket tournament is scheduled to conclude on Friday.
