Cricket: A Game of Focus Against Drug Abuse

Cricket is being promoted as a positive alternative for youth, steering them away from the risk of illegal drug use. This message was shared by Meli Saubulinayau, chairman of Cricket Fiji, during his remarks at the opening day of the Fiji Secondary Schools under-19 cricket tournament at Albert Park.

Saubulinayau emphasized to the young players the importance of maintaining focus on their cricket commitment rather than engaging in detrimental activities. He stated, “I reminded them to concentrate on coming here to play cricket rather than getting themselves occupied in other things.”

Cricket Fiji is dedicated to raising awareness, enhancing skills, and promoting the sport across various regions of the country. In addition to fostering talent and interest in cricket, the organization is also leveraging the sport as an effective means of combating drug use in communities.

Saubulinayau further advised participants to avoid distractions from other events taking place in Suva over the weekend. The cricket tournament is scheduled to conclude on Friday.
