Catherine Foster, the founder of Talamoana Designs, has turned her passion for crafting island-style textiles into a thriving online business that exemplifies the power of creativity and community support. What began as a hobby just two years ago has blossomed into a successful enterprise, specializing in beautiful hand-printed sarongs, head lei (fou), flowers, and tekiteki (sei).

Driven by a desire to provide for her family, which includes two young children, Foster’s creations reflect not only her artistic flair but also her dedication to quality craftsmanship, with each item taking between 30 minutes to an hour to create, depending on its complexity.

A pivotal moment in her entrepreneurial journey came when she enrolled in the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), an initiative supported by the American Embassy in Fiji. Foster learned essential skills in financial management, bookkeeping, and online marketing, which bolstered her confidence and equipped her to take her business to the next level. “The AWE program gave me the confidence to move forward with my business,” she stated, emphasizing the tools she gained to thrive in e-commerce.

With her new knowledge, she registered Talamoana Designs and established a solid presence on social media under the handle @Talamoana Designs. This shift to an online platform has significantly expanded her reach, allowing her to connect with customers locally and across the Pacific region. Although she currently operates without a physical storefront, Foster recognizes the importance of embracing digital commerce for modern business growth.
