Police have taken significant steps to address the rising issue of drug-related activities as the holiday season approaches. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu announced that an intensive crackdown on both white drugs, such as methamphetamine, and green drugs, like marijuana, is being implemented across all five policing divisions.
In Labasa, authorities have arrested two men in separate operations. A 55-year-old man from Vunivau was apprehended after police discovered zip-lock bags containing a white substance suspected to be methamphetamine. In another incident, a 52-year-old man from Siberia was taken into custody for possessing a similar substance and smoking paraphernalia.
Additionally, in Raiwaqa, two students, aged 15 and 16, were found with dried leaves believed to be marijuana during a search at their school. In Ba, a 33-year-old man was arrested after police uncovered several bullets of dried leaves thought to be marijuana.
ACP Driu highlighted that police operations are fueled by information and intelligence from the community. He cautioned that both types of illegal drugs pose serious risks to society. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach, stating, “With young lives at stake, we cannot afford to be selective in our approach,” and stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation with the public.
