Crackdown on Festive Drug Threats: Police Strike Back

Police are actively addressing the rising issue of drug-related activities as the festive season nears. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu announced that a vigorous crackdown on both “white drugs,” such as methamphetamine, and “green drugs,” like marijuana, is being implemented throughout all five policing divisions.

In Labasa, authorities apprehended two men during separate raids. A 55-year-old man from Vunivau was arrested after ziplock bags containing a white substance, believed to be methamphetamine, were discovered. In a separate incident, a 52-year-old man from Siberia was taken into custody for possessing a similar substance along with smoking paraphernalia.

In Raiwaqa, two students, aged 15 and 16, were found with dried leaves that are suspected to be marijuana during a search at their school. Additionally, in Ba, a 33-year-old man was arrested after police uncovered several bullets of dried leaves, also thought to be marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasized that police operations rely heavily on information and intelligence from the community. He cautioned that both categories of illicit drugs represent significant dangers to society. “With young lives at stake, we cannot afford to be selective in our approach,” he stated, highlighting the need for ongoing cooperation with the public.
