Crackdown on Drugs: Police Intensify Festive Season Operations

Police are actively addressing the increasing issue of drug-related activities as the festive season approaches. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu announced that efforts to combat both white drugs, such as methamphetamine, and green drugs, particularly marijuana, are being aggressively implemented across all five policing divisions.

In Labasa, authorities apprehended two men during separate operations. A 55-year-old individual from Vunivau was arrested after zip lock bags containing a white substance, believed to be methamphetamine, were discovered. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Siberia was taken into custody for possessing a similar substance and associated smoking paraphernalia.

In Raiwaqa, two students, aged 15 and 16, were found with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana during a school search. In Ba, a 33-year-old man was arrested when police uncovered multiple bullets of dried leaves, also thought to be marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasized that police actions are guided by community reports and intelligence. He cautioned that both types of illicit drugs present considerable dangers to society. He stated, “With young lives at stake, we cannot afford to be selective in our approach,” highlighting the need for ongoing collaboration with the public.
