This year, authorities have apprehended 18 individuals for possessing illicit drugs, which includes two juvenile students and a recent arrest of a woman.

On New Year’s Day, a 17-year-old student was caught near Lami Village with a clear zip lock bag containing dried leaves, as well as five sachets of what is believed to be marijuana. Another student, aged 16, was arrested in Nauluvatu with 11 sachets of similar substances. The crackdown extended to various localities, with a 30-year-old baker and a 35-year-old farmer found in possession of multiple sachets of dried marijuana.

Additional arrests included a 42-year-old unemployed man and a 40-year-old man who were discovered with suspicious substances at the Labasa market and bus stand respectively. Authorities made several more arrests, including four young men in Lautoka with 48 sachets of marijuana, and a 58-year-old man in Suva alongside two others with methamphetamine.

The police, during an operation in Tukavesi, found over 300 marijuana plants, underscoring the scale of the drug issue. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the importance of community involvement in the fight against drug abuse, highlighting cooperation from local leaders who are concerned about the welfare of youth in their communities.

This ongoing effort illustrates a strong commitment to addressing drug-related issues within the community, bringing hope for improved safety and support for the younger generation. By fostering collaboration between law enforcement and community leaders, a more substantial impact can be made to deter drug use and protect the future of local youth.

Overall, the police’s proactive stance and the community’s involvement signal a determined approach to combat drug problems, which can ultimately lead to a healthier society.
