Divisional taskforces are intensifying efforts to dismantle illicit networks as they seize alleged marijuana farms ahead of the festive season. In a recent operation, Savusavu Police raided the Viani farming area, confiscating over 200 plants thought to be marijuana. Another raid in the Navosa highlands yielded a significant haul of more than 1,000 plants.
The identities of the farm owners involved in these operations have not yet been confirmed. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu noted that these seizures align with their strategy to reduce the availability of drugs, as these plants were reportedly being prepared for distribution.
The efforts aren’t limited to rural areas; raids in urban centers have also proven effective. Earlier today, a successful operation at the carrier stand in Suva led to the seizure of several parcels containing dried leaves presumed to be marijuana after a search of two vehicles.
Ongoing investigations have resulted in the apprehension of suspects. ACP Driu emphasized the Fiji Police Force’s commitment to maintaining the pressure on these networks and cautioned that any attempts to hinder their policing efforts would be fruitless.
Overall, the continued success of these operations not only underscores the police’s dedication to public safety but also reflects a broader commitment to curbing drug-related activities in the community. As these efforts progress, they serve to foster a safer and more secure environment for all citizens, especially during the holiday season.
