Crackdown on Cannabis: Police Blitz With Multiple Arrests

Seizures of substances suspected to be marijuana have occurred across all five policing divisions, aided by enhanced information-sharing efforts.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) ACP Livai Driu announced that drug operations are being intensified as the festive season approaches, aiming to disrupt and destabilize the supply market.

Recent raids in Savusavu led to the arrest of five individuals who were allegedly found with dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

In the Central Division in Suva, a man in his 50s was taken into custody at a carrier stand after being allegedly found with similar dried leaves.

ACP Driu reported that along Mead Road in Nabua, a man in his 20s was arrested after police discovered multiple sachets of dried leaves, a plastic zip-lock bag containing seeds presumed to be marijuana, and another containing white crystals suspected to be methamphetamine.

In the Western Division, an 18-year-old was apprehended in Sigatoka after being found with over 50 dried branches and loose leaves alleged to be marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasized that divisional police operations will also enhance school and community awareness initiatives. He noted that the sharing of information significantly contributes to law enforcement’s efforts in reducing drug supply.
