CPL Group, one of Papua New Guinea’s major retail groups, is looking to invest in Fiji as part of its ongoing expansion efforts. During the Fiji-PNG Business Mission delegation, Pradeep Panda, Head of Pharmacy at CPL Group, highlighted that the firm has been active in the Fijian pharmaceutical market for almost two decades. The company aims to broaden its footprint by launching a medical equipment and laboratory business, enhancing the healthcare landscape in Fiji.

Founded in 1987 by Sir Mahesh Patel, a Fiji native who moved to PNG in 1984, CPL Group has diversified over the years into various sectors such as retail, healthcare, and hardware.

The current Fiji-PNG Business Mission 2025, which recently kicked off in Port Moresby, enjoys backing from BSP Financial Group, a co-sponsor of the event. Mark Robinson, CEO of BSP, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to fostering economic growth and strengthening the bonds between Fiji and PNG, aligning with their mission to serve as the South Pacific’s international bank.

BSP PNG is organizing roundtable discussions to connect the Fijian delegation with corporate clients, promoting potential investment opportunities in Fiji. These collaborative efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance economic relations between the two nations, emphasizing sustainable development and mutual prosperity within the Pacific region.

Kamal Chetty, CEO of Investment Fiji, praised the partnerships with BSP and Vodafone PNG, noting the importance of alliances in promoting trade and investment that offer lasting advantages for both nations.

This mission reflects a hopeful outlook as Fiji and PNG engage in cooperative initiatives aimed at bolstering economic ties. Such engagements signify a positive step toward increased regional cooperation, which could lead to enhanced economic resilience and growth across key sectors.
