Courtroom Clash: Magistrate Demands Urgency in Corruption Case

Resident Magistrate Krishnan Prasad criticized the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption in court today for delays in the case involving suspended Commissioner of Fiji Corrections Service, Salote Panapasa. FICAC Counsel Mary Takinana requested additional time to conduct a Pre Trial Corruption for Agreed Facts and informed the court that she would take over as the new officer in charge of the case. However, Magistrate Prasad emphasized the importance of promptly resolving the case, which is a fundamental right for any defendant. He ordered that a Pre Trial Conference be held on October 28 at 11 am. Panapasa was charged by FICAC and made an appearance in the Suva Magistrates Court recently. She faces two counts of abuse of office and an alternative count of general dishonesty resulting in loss. The case has been postponed to November 11 to address Agreed Facts and schedule a hearing date.
