The Lautoka High Court is set to issue a ruling tomorrow regarding the government’s request to destroy 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine that was seized in Nadi last December.
During a court session yesterday, several defendants, including Justin Ho, David Heritage, Louie Logaivau, Jale Aukerea, Sakiusa Tuva, Keanie Mcpherson, Ratu Aporosa Davelevu, Ratu Osea Levula, Cathy Tuirabe, and Viliame Colawaliku appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge. The Court is awaiting a destruction plan from the State to proceed with its ruling.
The Court has also directed both the State and the Defence to resolve any pre-trial matters by January 31, 2025. For now, trial and voir dire hearing dates have been scheduled from April 21 to May 23, 2025. Bail has been extended to all defendants, except Cathy Tuirabe and Viliame Colawaliku, who are currently the subjects of a police search due to absconding their bail conditions.
Additionally, a curfew has been imposed on Justin Ho, Louie Logaivau, and Jale Aukerea, requiring them to remain at home from 6 PM to 6 AM as an extra bail condition. All accused face serious charges, including the unlawful importation and possession of illicit drugs, as well as possession of property suspected to be connected to criminal activities.
The court proceedings underscore the gravity of the situation as the legal process unfolds. The anticipation for the ruling tomorrow showcases the judicial system’s commitment to addressing drug-related crimes effectively.
As the legal landscape progresses, it is hopeful that these measures will contribute to the broader fight against drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the region, fostering a safer environment for all.
