The Lautoka High Court is set to announce its decision tomorrow regarding the state’s request to destroy 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine that was seized in Nadi last December.
Yesterday, several individuals, including Justin Ho, David Heritage, Louie Logaivau, Jale Aukerea, Sakiusa Tuva, Keanie Mcpherson, Ratu Aporosa Davelevu, Ratu Osea Levula, Cathy Tuirabe, and Viliame Colawaliku, appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge. The Court is awaiting the submission of a destruction plan from the State before making its ruling.
The Court has instructed both the State and Defense to resolve pre-trial issues by January 31, 2025. Additionally, the dates for the Voir dire hearing and trial have been scheduled from April 21 to May 23, 2025.
Bail has been extended for all defendants except for Cathy Tuirabe and Viliame Colawaliku, who are currently wanted for absconding bail. The police are actively searching for these two individuals. Furthermore, the Court has imposed a curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM as a bail condition for Justin Ho, Louie Logaivau, and Jale Aukerea.
The accused face serious charges, including the unlawful importation and possession of illicit drugs, as well as possession of property believed to be proceeds of crime. The case has been adjourned to tomorrow for a ruling.
This situation highlights the seriousness with which the judicial system is addressing drug-related crimes in the region, aiming to ensure justice is served while also focusing on public safety. The ongoing developments present a chance for the legal system to reinforce its stance against drug trafficking and to ultimately contribute to a safer community.
