Three men have been remanded in custody at Suva’s Magistrates Court, facing serious charges related to drug possession and assault. The accused, Lemeki Baleiwai, aged 29, along with Maciu Jiuta, 27, and Asaeli Susewa, 23, appeared before Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza.
Baleiwai is specifically charged with one count of possessing illicit drugs, identified as marijuana, found in his possession on November 18, 2024. Meanwhile, Jiuta and Susewa are facing serious assault charges for allegedly attacking two police officers during a raid.
The court has confirmed that all necessary disclosures have been provided to the defense team, which has acknowledged receipt. The case has been scheduled for a bail hearing and further mention in Court Four on November 29.
This situation highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in tackling drug-related offenses and ensuring public safety. As the legal process unfolds, the court will consider all evidence and testimonies presented to ensure justice is served.
It’s hopeful to note that the judicial system is committed to addressing these issues, reinforcing the rule of law and the community’s safety. Through these proceedings, there’s an opportunity for rehabilitation and reflection on the consequences of such actions.
