A 39-year-old man who was found guilty of raping his 11-year-old niece has had his appeal against the conviction denied by the Fiji Court of Appeal. He faced charges of two counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape that occurred between January 1, 2016, and February 12, 2022. Records from the court indicate that the accused had warned the victim not to reveal the incidents. On June 22, 2022, he was sentenced to a 15-year prison term, with eligibility for parole after serving 13 years. The man presented six grounds for his appeal, and the ruling was made by Justice Isikeli Mataitoga on October 15.
