A man in his 30s, accused of sexually assaulting his 11-year-old daughter, has had his plea hearing postponed until November 25. The defendant appeared at the High Court in Suva, facing two charges of rape and two charges of sexual assault, which allegedly occurred at their home in September of this year.
The hearing was initially meant to record his plea, but was delayed as he requested assistance from Legal Aid. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has opposed the man’s release on bail, and this matter will be addressed during the next court session. Joshua Singh, representing the DPP, was present for the prosecution.
The serious nature of these charges highlights ongoing concerns about child safety and the protection of vulnerable individuals within families. It is crucial for legal proceedings to be followed thoroughly to ensure justice is served for victims of such heinous acts. As the case progresses, there is hope that it will lead to stronger awareness and preventive measures against domestic violence and child abuse in society.
