The High Court in Suva has instructed Veronica Malani to ensure her legal representative is present at the next court session to schedule a hearing date. During a recent appearance before Justice Usaia Ratuvili, Malani’s attorney, Sitiveni Raikanikoda, was absent as he was attending to another matter at the Nasinu Magistrate’s Court.
Ronal Singh, a frustrated defense lawyer, informed the court that they had already submitted their motion to strike out Malani’s claim and were prepared to establish a hearing date. Singh emphasized that Raikanikoda’s previous absences from court have been a recurring issue, and despite being unavailable, he did not offer any alternative dates for the proceedings.
The Attorney-General’s office has been granted a 14-day period to submit their application to strike out Malani’s lawsuit, which demands $800,244 million from 11 individuals associated with the investigation of the 1987 bombing case. At the same time, lawyer Mohammed Saneem indicated that they were not ready to make the same application as it had not been properly addressed.
Justice Ratuvili has adjourned the case until next Wednesday, at which point a hearing date will be determined.
The unfolding of this legal matter highlights the complexities of the judicial process and the importance of legal representation in ensuring that proceedings move smoothly. It is also a reminder of the ongoing pursuit of justice for all parties involved. While the case is still developing, there is a clear path ahead for resolution, and hopefully, it will lead to a fair outcome for all involved parties.
