A 27-year-old supervisor from Korovuto, Nadi, has been apprehended on charges of acquiring financial advantage through dishonest means. This charges stems from a detailed investigation by the Fiji Police M-Paisa Task Force concerning an incident on January 30, 2023, where the accused allegedly obtained $600 from a victim using the M-Paisa platform.

The victim, misled by a Facebook advertisement, transmitted the funds under the belief that they were investing in a legitimate opportunity. Unfortunately, after the transaction, the accused’s mobile number was blocked by Vodafone, and the victim did not receive any refund. The situation was promptly reported to the Nakasi Police Station, resulting in the arrest of the accused.

Currently in police custody, the accused has a scheduled appearance in the Nadi Magistrate Court. This case highlights ongoing concerns around online financial scams, particularly through social media channels, and underscores the critical need for caution when engaging in online financial transactions.
