National Under-20 head coach Senirusi Seruvakula is set to announce his final 30-member squad in the last week of January. The team is gearing up for two significant tournaments taking place in New Zealand in March: the Oceania Championship and the Super U20 competition.

Seruvakula highlighted that many of the players in the extended squad were chosen based on their performances in the Vodafone Deans trophy competition held last year. Additionally, there has been notable interest from overseas-based players, with several already participating in training sessions with the squad.

“The focus for our team will be on these two tournaments,” Seruvakula stated. “We will represent the national U20 team in the Oceania competition and play under the Drua U20 banner in the Super Rugby U20 competition.”

The Oceania Championship will feature teams from Tonga, Samoa, and Moana Pasifika. The squad is scheduled to depart in the last week of February, with the Oceania tournament commencing in early March, followed by a short rest before the second tournament, which lasts approximately one and a half weeks.

To finalize the selection process, Seruvakula and his coaching staff will conduct open trials in Duva, Sigatoka, and Nadi on the upcoming Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

As young athletes prepare for these major competitions, this initiative could foster talent and promote the sport at a grassroots level, encouraging future stars of rugby. The upcoming tournaments offer an exciting opportunity for players to showcase their skills on an international stage, contributing to the development of rugby in the region.
