The FIJI Water Flying Fijians team has just one week to prepare for the crucial Test against the All Blacks in the USA next Saturday.
Some team members are currently sorting out their visas in Fiji before heading to join the rest of the squad in San Diego.
Despite the logistical challenges, head coach Mick Byrne believes that one week is sufficient time to lay down their processes and reflect on the shortfalls seen in their match against Georgia.
“Georgia was very physical around our breakdown, and I thought we handled that okay. Overall, I was pleased with our performance, especially given our short time together. We missed several opportunities out wide against Georgia, and while our defense was generally good, there are areas for improvement. The key for us is to finish off the opportunities created during the game, and that will come with another week together,” Byrne said.
These processes will be crucial against a clinical New Zealand side, something that England executed well in their recent Test match.
“I was very impressed with England; they really challenged the All Blacks. They were strong defensively, but New Zealand is a quality side with plenty of depth in their squad. We’re looking forward to showcasing our talents as well,” Byrne added.
The head coach is optimistic that this week of preparation will boost the team’s confidence and help deliver a worthy performance for their fans at Snapdragon Stadium.
“We know we can match their physicality and we are looking forward to doing that in San Diego.”
Fiji will face off against the All Blacks next Saturday at 2.30pm.
