Health officials in Rewa Sub-Division are advocating for increased government investment in vital infrastructure as they prepare for the upcoming national budget announcement. Sub-Divisional Medical Officer Dr. Charlie Rasue pointed out that while refurbishment work is in progress at several health facilities, many centers are still in dire need of urgent repairs and modernization. Dr. Rasue highlighted the importance of these upgrades, emphasizing that they create a healthier and more efficient environment for both healthcare workers and the communities they serve.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu has expressed optimism about the potential for a budget increase to tackle these pressing issues, following a significant allocation of $451.8 million for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in the current budget cycle. The upcoming budget for 2025–2026 will be presented next Friday by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad.

This focus on renovating health facilities aligns with broader commitments made by the government to address the challenges faced by the healthcare system in Fiji. Recent efforts have included the allocation of funds for refurbishing facilities across the nation, addressing longstanding neglect within the healthcare infrastructure. Similar sentiments have been echoed by officials in recent articles, who noted the improvements in areas like the Nausori Health Centre, which has been upgraded to better serve its population.

The urgent need for enhancements is underscored by the rising incidence of non-communicable diseases, which now accounts for a significant proportion of health issues in the nation. Professor Prasad has indicated that improving health outcomes is essential for bolstering national productivity and economic growth. With strategic investments and a collaborative approach, there is hope for a brighter health landscape in Fiji, paving the way for improved public health services and better-quality care for all citizens.
