The Fiji Pearls are in a race against time as they prepare for the upcoming PacAusSports Series scheduled to commence in Brisbane, Australia next month. With only five weeks left, the team has resumed their training regimen, focusing on fitness and teamwork at the FMF Gymnasium in Laucala Bay, Suva.

Head coach Jioweli Vakamoce emphasized the critical importance of enhancing the players’ fitness levels in the lead-up to the series. He remarked, “With just five weeks remaining, our primary focus will be on their fitness and continuing to develop our court and skills combinations.”

The training sessions have been rigorous, with the extended squad engaging in both fitness drills at the HPU Gym and intense workouts at the FMF Gym. Players have been challenged to push their limits, striving to elevate their performance as their training becomes increasingly demanding.

As the festive spirit of the new year begins to fade, the Pearls are adopting a fresh tactical approach inspired by the recent success of their male counterparts in netball. Vakamoce stated, “We have designed a new program for the men’s team and we are incorporating some of those elements for the Pearls, hoping it will yield positive results.”

This determination to adapt and innovate provides hope for the Fiji Pearls as they gear up for the competition. With targeted training and an emphasis on fitness, the team aims to display their best performance yet in Australia.

Ultimately, the preparations not only build the athletes’ physical capabilities but also foster camaraderie and resilience—a crucial aspect of succeeding in team sports. As the countdown to the PacAusSports Series continues, the Fiji Pearls’ commitment sets them on a promising path.
