Approximately 5,000 teachers are facing the expiration of their teacher registrations at the end of this month. In an effort to help teachers renew their registrations before the start of the school holidays, the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) is offering special services on Saturday, December 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
FTRA CEO Sangeeta Singh highlighted that it is customary for the authority to open its headquarters one Saturday in December to accommodate teachers seeking registration renewals. She noted that many teachers have previously overlooked the renewal process as they transition into holiday mode.
Mrs. Singh encouraged teachers to utilize this opportunity to complete their renewals, as any delays would result in a $30 late penalty, as outlined in the FTR Act 2008. In such cases, teachers will also need to submit a new medical report and police clearance.
To facilitate the process, Mrs. Singh emphasized the importance of completing Form 2, which is necessary for renewal, with endorsements from school heads for teachers and from respective District and divisional education officers for school heads.
This initiative demonstrates the FTRA’s commitment to supporting educators in maintaining their credentials, ensuring a smooth transition into the holiday season. Teachers are urged to take proactive steps in renewing their registrations, highlighting a positive approach to their professional responsibilities.
Summary: The FTRA will open on December 21 to assist about 5,000 teachers with registration renewals before the holidays. The authority is encouraging teachers to complete their renewals to avoid late penalties.
