The Assistant Transport Minister, Naisa Tuinaceva, is urging road users to prioritize the use of main roads to alleviate pressure on secondary and residential routes. His appeal comes as part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing peak-hour traffic congestion, particularly during the busy morning commute. Tuinaceva encourages Fijians to consider using public transportation as a means to decrease the volume of private vehicles on the roads.

This call to action aligns with the ongoing efforts of a traffic congestion task force, which has been actively inspecting critical congestion points in the Central Division over the past week. Areas identified for immediate improvements include Wainivula Road, the junction near Rishikul Sanatan College in Valelevu, and the junction of Khalsa Road via Princess Road. These locations have been flagged for prioritized traffic management enhancements.

In addition to road management strategies, the police and the Land Transport Authority are set to conduct joint enforcement operations to ensure adherence to traffic regulations, particularly in areas prone to illegal parking and accidents. Tuinaceva believes that these enforcement efforts will significantly enhance traffic efficiency and improve road safety.

The comprehensive approach taken by the transport authorities echoes previous initiatives aimed at infrastructure development and public transport reform. For instance, earlier reports highlighted the government’s collaboration with the Land Transport Authority and the Fiji Roads Authority to expand critical roads in the Suva-Nausori corridor. Planned upgrades include widening major roads and exploring alternative routes to ease congestion.

As these measures unfold, there is a sense of optimism among residents that these ongoing efforts will soon lead to improved traffic conditions, making daily commutes less stressful and more efficient. The proactive stance taken by the government and transport officials signals a commitment to fostering better connectivity and enhancing the socio-economic landscape for all Fijians.
