Corruption Charges Spark Legal Drama in Fiji

Suva Magistrate Krishnan Prasad has instructed the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption to deliver second phase disclosures to former Fiji Broadcasting Corporation CEO Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and CFO Vimlesh Sagar by 4:30 PM today.

This directive was issued during a court session this morning. The court also observed that Sagar, who is currently out on bail, does not have a second surety recorded in court documents.

Sayed-Khaiyum faces charges including one count of abuse of office and another of general dishonesty resulting in a loss, while Sagar is charged with one count of general dishonesty causing a loss.

In a separate case, Sayed-Khaiyum is similarly charged with one count of abuse of office and one count of general dishonesty causing a loss, and Sagar is again facing a charge of general dishonesty resulting in a loss.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for 31 August 2024 for a plea. Magistrate Prasad has moved the case back to Court One.
