Correction Officer Caught Smuggling Contraband: Shocking Discovery at Minimum Correction Centre

The Fiji Corrections Service has arrested a Corrections Officer who was caught trying to smuggle illegal drugs and mobile phones into the Minimum Correction Centre during his second shift night guard duty.

The officer was discovered with marijuana, two mobile phones without SIM cards, and an 80 cm suki roll during a routine shift change.

He had previously been suspected of being used by inmates to smuggle contraband into the facility.

Other officers, who had been monitoring his movements, confronted him as he attempted to return to his post.

Upon searching him, they confiscated the contraband and found two mobile phones in his bag.

The suspect was immediately detained, and his statement was recorded. He is currently being held at the Emergency Control Unit base awaiting further investigation and will face disciplinary proceedings.

The Fiji Corrections Service upholds a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of misconduct and contraband smuggling within its facilities.
