The upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens final will reintroduce 10-minute halves for each half of the match. This announcement was made by Jay Whyte, Chair and Founder of the Coral Coast Sevens Organising Committee, during a press conference.

The tournament is scheduled to take place at Lawaqa Park from January 16 to 18, and attendees will enjoy free entry, allowing fans from across Fiji to come and experience the matches without any cost. Whyte emphasized the importance of creating a unique atmosphere, stating, “That makes this a unique experience.”

The event aims to distinguish itself from other local competitions by keeping fans engaged through innovative ideas. Following the success of the 2024 ambassador all-star team, Whyte hinted at similar initiatives for 2025. Registration for the 2025 tournament has officially closed due to a surge of interest both locally and internationally, with teams from various regions, including a Caribbean team confirmed for the 2026 event.

Among the 16 youth teams participating in 2025 are representatives from Sacramento, Nauru Youth, Sunnybank Australia, and the Pacific Nomads, highlighting the wide appeal of the tournament. In the men’s division, there will be 16 teams competing, split evenly between international and local participants, featuring notable contenders like New Zealand’s elite team, the Fiji 7s, and the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua 7s.

As the tournament date approaches, Whyte promised further exciting announcements, expressing optimism for a thrilling tournament experience and revealing that “there’s some big names and big announcements coming up” in the weeks leading up to the event.

In summary, the reinstatement of 10-minute halves and changes for the 2025 tournament reflects an effort to enhance the experience for fans and participants alike, ensuring that the Coral Coast Sevens continues to be a showcase of talent and entertainment. This positive outlook promises not only thrilling matches but also a community-centered event that brings together rugby enthusiasts from around the world.
