The Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka has made a triumphant return after a five-year break. The festival kicked off on Saturday, with Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa emphasizing this year’s theme, “Breaking the Waves of Addiction,” which centers on the pressing issue of drug addiction.

In his remarks, Mr. Nalumisa encouraged attendees to appreciate the natural beauty of the area, highlighting the stunning blue waters and the warm hospitality that has made Fiji a favored holiday destination. He noted that the theme serves as a reminder that drug addiction affects the community as a whole and is a significant public health challenge.

Festival organizing committee secretary, Ramesh Naidu, expressed excitement about the long-awaited event, mentioning the lack of festive occasions since the last Coral Coast Festival. He acknowledged Vodafone as the main sponsor and appreciated the support from local businesses and the community.

The carnival features seven contestants competing for the title of Miss Coral Coast 2024, and the organizers aimed to preserve the joyous spirit of past festivals, striving to recreate the same sense of community celebration that existed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The crowning of Miss Coral Coast 2024 is set to occur this Saturday.

This event not only brings back a sense of community jubilation but also highlights important issues affecting society. The festival serves as a platform for awareness regarding drug addiction while celebrating the cultural richness and beauty of Fiji. The revitalization of such gatherings can foster resilience and unity among the people, promoting a brighter future.

In summary, the Coral Coast Carnival’s return symbolizes hope and revival, addressing critical social challenges while celebrating Fiji’s unique charm.
