Jiya Jaanvi Prasad, a 20-year-old advocate for addiction awareness, is participating in the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka with the support of Rainbow Cool Tech. She is one of seven contestants committed to addressing the pressing issue of drug addiction during the event.
“At the Coral Coast Carnival, we unite to fight drug addiction,” Ms. Prasad stated. She emphasized that while addiction presents significant challenges, the collective efforts of individuals can foster hope, recovery, and support for those affected. This marks her first experience in a pageant, and she believes that by raising awareness and extending compassion, they can break the chains of addiction and pave the way for a brighter, healthier future.
Ms. Prasad credits her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen, for their support in her endeavors, noting their roles in the tourism industry. Hailing from Maro, Nadroga, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, with aspirations to become a lawyer.
According to Ramesh Naidu, the committee secretary, the carnival, which has been ongoing for four years, is set to crown its winner this Saturday.
This event not only highlights the beauty and talent of young women but also serves as a powerful platform for raising awareness about the dangers of drug addiction. Through unity and shared purpose, contestants like Ms. Prasad inspire hope and resilience in their communities, showcasing that positive change is possible when individuals come together for a common cause.
