The McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens final will return to 10-minute halves, as announced by Jay Whyte, Chair and Founder of the Coral Coast Sevens Organising Committee, during a recent press conference. This change aims to revert the game’s structure back to its traditional format.

Scheduled for January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park, the tournament promises to be an accessible event as fans will enjoy free entry. “Anyone from around Fiji who wants to watch the games can just walk straight through, making this a unique experience,” Whyte stated.

The Coral Coast Sevens is committed to distinguishing itself from other local competitions, focusing on innovation and engaging fans. Following the popular introduction of an ambassador all-star team in 2024, Whyte indicated that similar initiatives are planned for 2025, with further announcements to come.

Team registration for the 2025 event is already closed due to high demand from both local and international participants. Notably, a Caribbean team has confirmed its intention to compete in the 2026 tournament. The youth division for 2025 will include 16 teams, showcasing talent from places like Sacramento, Nauru Youth, and Sunnybank in Australia, alongside the top youth teams from Fiji.

The men’s division will see fierce competition with 16 teams—eight local and eight international—including some of the best from New Zealand and the Fiji 7s and Swire Shipping Fijian Drua 7s teams. With anticipation building, Whyte hinted that significant announcements are on the horizon, promising an exciting tournament in January.

This event not only fosters local talent but also showcases international interest in Fijian rugby, which is a positive sign for the growth of the sport in the region. Fans can look forward to an electrifying atmosphere as the Coral Coast Sevens continues to evolve and draw in diverse participants and supporters alike.
