A police officer in Suva has been arrested for alleged involvement in a significant drug ring after authorities uncovered over 6,000 dried marijuana branches in his residence. The police operation unfolded following a tip-off that led to a raid around 3 a.m., where officers found four large bags and a garbage bag filled with cannabis leaves neatly bundled in the living room.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed that the police officer has been formally charged. He stated that this incident is part of the Fiji Police Force’s broader initiative aimed at eradicating rogue officers and reinforcing the integrity of the police force.

Driu highlighted that no one is exempt from legal accountability, underlining the commitment to uphold the law and maintain public trust in law enforcement. Previous reports from the Fiji Police Force this week reflected a vigorous approach towards dismantling drug trafficking networks, showcasing their determination to tackle illegal drug activities throughout the community.

This incident serves as a grave reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by policing systems globally, particularly in relation to internal corruption. However, the decisive actions taken by the Fiji Police Force in addressing this serious issue can reinforce community confidence and promote a stricter stance against narcotics in the future.

In light of these developments, it is hopeful that such enforcement actions will foster greater public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities and contribute to a safer environment for all residents as these efforts to uphold law and order continue.
