A woman at the center of serious Viber messages claiming connections between several senior police officers and the drug trade has begun cooperating with authorities, as confirmed by Fiji’s Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. Alex Forwood has agreed to assist the police and is expected to provide a formal statement shortly.

Commissioner Tudravu stated that arrangements are being made for a senior investigator from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to travel to Sydney to record Forwood’s statement. He also noted that the Australian Federal Police (AFP) is facilitating her safety and the international aspects of the investigation.

Despite public calls for disciplinary actions, Commissioner Tudravu emphasized that decisions regarding the officers involved would solely depend on the evidence gathered. He expressed concern over the potential for public opinion to influence the investigation, insisting on the importance of verified evidence over speculation.

“It’s still a Viber message; the investigation is ongoing,” he said, urging the public to allow investigators the space needed to uncover genuine connections. He reassured the community that the police aim to trace the financial connections once they establish the validity of the messages.

This inquiry represents a critical moment for ensuring accountability within the police force while emphasizing the importance of thorough and unbiased investigations. The cooperation from Ms. Forwood could provide pivotal information, helping to clarify the situation and determine the necessary actions moving forward.
