Tiliva Nakasaleka Village headman, Jale Duikoro, has addressed rumors regarding funds or donations from the Chinese embassy. Allegations circulating on social media claim that Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, received $172,000 from the Chinese ambassador for a village development project. Mr. Duikoro clarified last week that these funds have no connection to Ms. Tabuya.
“The $172,000 is for village development purposes, specifically for projects like path construction and restroom improvements,” Mr. Duikoro stated.
“We are aware of speculations alleging it was a private donation. These funds were managed directly between the Chinese government and the Tiliva Development Committee; they were not received privately by her.”
Ms. Tabuya commented yesterday, “The village development committee had liaised directly with them, and I was not involved in any way. The process was transparent and straightforward. I am not a member of nor involved with the development committee.”
