Controversy Strikes as Mudaliar Loses Featherweight Title in Emotional Showdown

Krishnil Mudaliar expressed his deep disappointment and frustration after losing in a controversial split decision to Junior Binnu Singh for the WBF Australasian featherweight title at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday night. A tearful Mudaliar, a former champion in both the bantamweight and super featherweight categories, described the verdict as “daylight robbery” and called for a review of the decision.

Mudaliar, exploiting his reach advantage, consistently landed jabs that he believed should have secured him the win. “The commission needs to review this and declare the rightful winner. I scored every round; Binnu didn’t win any from the first to the eighth,” he asserted.

The judges rendered their scores in favor of Singh, with Fatu Tuimanono scoring it 77-72, Jone Loloma at 78-72, and Rahul Sami at 77-75. Prior to the bout, Mudaliar had emphasized the need for fairness from the officiating team.

He further expressed his willingness to face Singh again, requesting that the commission mandate a rematch. Singh, on the other hand, indicated his plans to seek a fight against an overseas opponent. He dedicated his victory to his late grandfather, Jaswant Singh, who had passed away the previous week, stating, “This win is for him. He was a great motivator in my career.”

Singh confirmed his participation in a November event under the Bluewater Boxing Promotion, noting that the fight had followed their strategic game plan and complimented Mudaliar’s toughness.

In other match results, Siliveni Nawai and Semi Tui fought to a draw; Rakuro Daunivavana defeated Ronald Naidu by TKO in the third round; Samuela Naqari won on points against Kolinio Luvelolo; Masitoqi Rokotuva claimed victory over Mohammed Ali by TKO in the third round; Junior Manna and Lepani Levatia also drew; Jnr Abhay Chand defeated Tomasi Vunavou with a TKO in the second round; Azhar Khan triumphed over Nitin Lal; and Mohammed Nafiz bested Shefrazud Dean.
