Miss Universe Fiji has decided to withdraw its funding and is demanding a comprehensive investigation into the event’s organizers following allegations regarding the crowning of an incorrect winner.
The Lux Bali Project, which holds the Miss Universe Fiji 2024 license, returned to Fiji after a 43-year absence. Questions have been raised about the selection process that led to Manshika Prasad being named the winner. The Lux Bali Project has emphasized that the licensee should be responsible for appointing the judges for the competition.
Initially, there were plans for a multi-year investment in the prestigious beauty pageant in Fiji, aimed at ensuring the country’s representation on the global platform that Miss Universe provides. However, in light of the controversy over the allegedly incorrect winner announced during the final, and the damage to its brand due to the organizers’ actions, Miss Universe Fiji’s Board has decided to withdraw all future financial support.
Furthermore, the Board is calling for a thorough investigation into the conduct of the contracted organizers, particularly regarding the selection of judges. It has been pointed out that nearly all judges were related to or connected with the organizers, which raised concerns about fairness and led to claims of discrimination against local Fijian contestants. This situation allegedly aimed to secure a Fiji Indian titleholder as part of a pre-determined outcome, intended to attract lucrative global sponsorships and business deals to the detriment of the Miss Universe Fiji brand.
