Miss Universe Fiji has decided to withdraw its funding and is calling for a comprehensive investigation into the event organizers following allegations regarding an incorrect winner selection. The Lux Bali Project, which holds the Miss Universe Fiji 2024 license, returned to the country this year after a 43-year absence.
Concerns have been raised about the crowning of Manshika Prasad, prompting Lux Projects Bali to advocate for the proper selection of judges, asserting that the licensee should have the authority to choose them.
Miss Universe Fiji noted that it initially intended to make a significant multi-year investment in the prestigious beauty pageant to enhance Fiji’s representation on the global stage. However, the controversy surrounding the crowning of the wrong winner on the final night has led to the withdrawal of all future financial backing.
The organization is also demanding an inquiry into the conduct of the contracted organizers, criticizing the appointment of judges who were primarily family, friends, and business associates, leaving only one independent judge. This situation has raised concerns about potential discrimination against native Fijian contestants, as it is alleged that the outcome aimed to secure a Fiji Indian titleholder to attract lucrative global sponsorships and business deals, ultimately harming the Miss Universe Fiji brand.
