“Controversial Split Decision Sparks Tears in Featherweight Title Fight”

Krishnil Mudaliar was visibly emotional after his loss to Junior Binnu Singh in a contentious points decision during the WBF Australasian featherweight championship at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, on Saturday night. Mudaliar expressed his feelings, stating, “This is daylight robbery and this decision needs to be reviewed.” The former Fiji bantamweight and super featherweight champion believed he had outperformed Singh by leveraging his longer reach to land effective jabs throughout the fight.

Mudaliar remarked, “I should be ahead on the scorecard. He (Binnu) never won any round; from round one to eight, it was all my rounds.” The judges scored the match in favor of Singh, with Fatu Tuimanono at 77-72, Jone Loloma at 78-72, and Rahul Sami at 77-75.

Before the bout, Mudaliar emphasized the need for fairness from the ring officials. He expressed his willingness to challenge Singh again for the title, urging the commission to arrange a rematch.

In contrast, Singh, who celebrated his victory, indicated his intentions to fight an overseas opponent next. He dedicated his win to his late grandfather, Jaswant Singh, who had passed away the previous Friday, stating that his grandfather had been a significant motivator in his career.

Singh mentioned that the fight followed their planned strategy and acknowledged Mudaliar as a tough competitor. He also confirmed his participation in an upcoming match in November under Bluewater Boxing Promotion.
