Krishnil Mudaliar expressed his disappointment and sadness after a contentious points decision loss to local fighter Junior Binnu Singh for the WBF Australasian featherweight title at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, on Saturday night. A tearful Mudaliar, who is a former Fiji bantamweight and super featherweight champion, described the outcome as “daylight robbery” and called for a review of the decision.
Utilizing his longer reach, Mudaliar managed to consistently land jabs, effectively keeping Singh at a distance throughout the match. He asserted, “The commission needs to review and then declare the correct winner. I should be ahead on the scorecard. He (Binnu) never won any round; from round one to eight, it was all my rounds.” The judges scored the bout in favor of Singh, with Fatu Tuimanono at 77-72, Jone Loloma scoring it 78-72, and Rahul Sami concluding with 77-75.
Prior to the fight, Mudaliar emphasized the necessity for fair decisions from ring officials. He expressed his readiness for a rematch against Singh, urging the commission to arrange one.
Singh, on the other hand, shared his future plans to face an overseas opponent. He dedicated his victory to his late grandfather, Jaswant Singh, who had passed away the previous Friday. “He was my dad’s father and he was not a boxer but a great motivator in my career. This win is for him,” Singh stated. He noted that the fight unfolded according to their strategic plan and acknowledged Mudaliar as a tough competitor.
Looking ahead, Singh confirmed his participation in a November event organized by Bluewater Boxing Promotion.
